Trenton Community Center
The Trenton Community Center is intended to be the backdrop for a diverse set of functions. Located close to the center of town and adjacent to the community swimming pool and ball fields, the building houses an assembly space, an entrance gallery, a warming kitchen, restrooms and an animal adoption center. The size of the program, the slope of the site and the desire to separate the spaces for security and mechanical zoning purposes resulted in the division of the footprint into two masses connected by a linear gallery space. The retaining wall forming the north of the assembly hall extends out of the building to create a sheltered courtyard space. The materials and construction of the community center are residential in nature consisting of fiber cement siding, corrugated translucent polycarbonate panels and exposed truss framing.
