Bijou Theater Renovation
Description
The former Bijou Theater occupies the ground floor of the Carta parking garage on the block at the corner of Broad and Third Streets. This original space was intentionally designed to be easily convertible to retail and office space once the theater vacated the building. The scope of this project involves the conversion of the existing theater into a new flexible shell space capable of housing a variety of functions. Several exterior features are intended in order to update and invigorate the existing structure. A series of steel exoskeletons support district signage reminiscent of Times Square, climbing vegetation and a series of pedestrian canopies around the perimeter of the building. Water catchment to feed the wall of vegetation and a bank of roof mounted photovoltaics are also being considered.
